Karen Hendrickson’s brother died suddenly when she was sixteen years old. That event became a lifelong lesson in death and dying, grief, and how to support teens during a loss.
In her personal life, Karen experienced the death of her older brother Ernie when she was only sixteen years old. He was only 22 years old. That life event changed forever the culture of her family.
Karen describes it as “the beginning of us tucking our grief into the shadows”.
An Interview with Helen Bauer of The Heart of Hospice where we talk about:
- working to dispel misinformation about the work that death doulas (also known at end of life doulas) do.
- the work of Death Doula Network International in support of all Death Doulas and those they care for
- what it takes to build a community of trust, respect and authenticity
